Enjoying It

Posted by Whitney Forstner 1 Comments

This time of year I start to get really excited for warm weather, longer days and an overall sense of rebirth. However, I also find this time of year completely overwhelming. I am rushing through the days, taking children to birthday parties and playgroups while constantly checking my blackberry to attend to clients needs. And I am already thinking about the schedule for the summer who's going where and doing what. Simply looking at the calendar creates anxiety about what's "next".

I was feeling this way when I sat down to dinner with my almost five year old twin boys tonight. Like every other night, my kids flew through dinner so that they could have desert. When finally served with their after dinner treat, they started wolfing it down. I repeatedly said "take your time, slow down and enjoy it" (and reminded them that they weren't going to get another treat until tomorrow). The 5th time I said it, it resonated that I should take my own advice and "slow down and enjoy it". Just as the light bulb clicked in my mind, my son looked at me and said I am going to "eat it all in one bite and enjoy it". How true little one.

So, some days I will remind myself to slow down and other days, I will eat it all - enjoying both!

Thanks Whitney! I read a quote this morning about leadership presence that said, "Practicing Presence: If we could allow the pace of our meetings to slow down to the pace of our hearts, we might find genuine understanding." It reminds me of your story. Thanks for inspiring me to slow down and enjoy it Whitney!
