Leadership Truths of a 6th grader

Posted by Kelly Lewis 1 Comments

On Monday, I had the honor of witnessing 12 business leaders gracefully step back from "instructor" role to "guide" role while working with their 6th graders at Moody Middle School.

Agility is a key piece of effective leadership and each of these folks are courageously stepping into that.

Their students (like others in our work and lives) reminded us that leadership requires us to play many different roles - follower, director, conductor, facilitator, teacher, supporter, challenger, coach, creator.

And I wanted to remind all of us of two very important "leadership truths" I heard through the voices of a 6th grader:
- When we believe in ourselves (our sparks, our core) we connect who we are with what we do
- It is time to give ourselves permission to stop being the role of the instructor (the the role of ______________) and to start being yourself

Wow.. are young people wise beyond their years or what! I don't think there is more that needs to be said:)
