Grace...and Patience

Eleven-year-old Grace declares her word for the year.

Patience.

That is my word for the year.  I need to practice patience with my brother and sister. Last year, I felt like I was always bossing my siblings around. I didn’t mean to be rude.  I was just trying to help. But I have learned that I am not the mom and I cannot control what my little brother and sister do. (Neither can my mom).

This year, I hope to leave all of that behind. Well, maybe I can still be a little bossy.  After all, I am the big sister.  Telling my brother and sister what I think they should do (for their own good) is a lot different from telling them what they HAVE to do.

For me, being a leader is about being proud and sharing who I am with the world.  It’s also about listening to people, like my brother and sister.  Leaders aren’t bossy. Leaders make room for everyone, even if they get on your nerves like my brother and sister do.  In 2011, I am going to be the best leader and the best me that I can be!
