My measuring stick

Posted by Kelly Lewis Share Your Voice

Accountability (of self) and allowance (of other) has been quite present for me this week. A week that has been filled with some struggle in my own leadership and learning journey:) My struggle has been between wanting (and at times expecting) to experience others as their best selves (and getting quite pissed off when I don't) and tying my willingness to be my best to them.

What I have realized is that in those moments I am doing two things: 1. Giving all of my power and choice over to something I have ZERO control over and 2. Applying my "measuring stick" (to borrow a good friends image) of my best self to other people which is and always will be a set up. With this new awareness comes new possibilities:) Here are the couple of new choices I am practicing: 1. to apply that measuring stick only to myself 2. to show up as my best self in the moment regardless of how others are showing up 3. to let go of the expectation that others best self is the same as mine 4. to hold onto the hope that others will chose to be their best self on their time

I am thankful for the people in my life who have helped me SEE so I can now chose differently - a very good place as we head into my favorite holiday:)
