Sick Day

Posted by Nicki Peasley Share Your Voice

When was the last time you took a sick day? If you're like most hard working, stubborn Americans, it's probably been a while. Sure, you might have taken a day off with a stomach bug or a nasty cold, but did you close your laptop and turn off your cell phone? Probably not.

As I write, I have a slight fever and I feel like I might cough up a lung. Yet, I am driven to keep contributing. That insistent voice in my head taunting me, "Come on, it's just a cold... you haven't posted in a while... you're not doing enough... keep going..."

Well, today, I am turning the volume down on that voice--allowing a new voice to emerge. "I am enough. And today I will rest. The blog post, the laundry, the website reconstruction, the learning plans, the dishes, the e-mails, the school volunteering, the endless planning and organizing for my family of 5-- it can all wait. The world won't stop spinning if Nicki Peasley goes to bed-- (as long as I'm up by 1:00 to teach my class :))." I am a work of human art--IN PROGRESS.
