Not So Random Acts of Kindness

We are masters of kindness out in the world-- all of us, as individuals and as a collective.  Where we are seriously lacking, of late,  is inside our own 4 walls.  The bickering and competition for attention; the indifference when someone is hurting; the impatience with each others' quirks and idiosyncracies; the overall lack of genuine kindness.

Last night, as the CEO of this family and rector of home church, I think (I hope) I came up with a solution to get us back on the kindness track-- at home.

1) We threw our names in a hat.

2) We all picked  a name-- and made a pact to keep it secret until Christmas night.

3) For the rest of December (and hopefully beyond), we will focus our attention on being kind to our special person (through at least one intentional act of kindness a day).

AND HERE'S THE GENIUS PART:  Because our goal is to keep this secret, we'll have to cover our tracks by BEING KIND TO EVERYONE.

As I write, all of my kids are in the kitchen packing their own lunches (for me :)) and tripping over themselves with offers to help each other.    "No, you can have the last cookie..." Ahhh, the best Christmas present in the world.
