Let There Be Learning!

In this brilliant and practical SmartBlog on Leadership, Victoria Halsey, author and expert in workplace learning and developing, is challenging the old school approach to teaching and passive learning.  Only 44% of working Americans are satisfied with the training and development opportunities at work.  Halsey's solution:  the 70/30 principle.

1) Learners do 70% of the talking and 30% of the listening.

2) Teachers spend 70% of their time preparing HOW they will teach and 30% on what they will teach.

3) Learners spend 70% of their time practicing and 30% being taught.

Halsey proposes a 6 step learning model based on the most recent data in neuroscience.

ENGAGE!

Energize the learner.

Navigate Content.

Generate Meaning.

Apply to the real world.

Gauge and celebrate.

Extend learning to action.
